From One Mom's Idea to 1,000 Smiles: The Birth of J Steppin' 4 Autism

It all started with a simple thought: “We can’t have a Christmas party with no toys.”
Back in 2021, my child attended an ABA clinic for children with autism. As the holidays approached, I learned that the clinic didn’t have any toys for their Christmas party. Seeing that gap, I knew I had to do something. I didn’t want the kids to miss out on the joy of the season, so I decided to collect toys.
I set a goal, quietly, to gather enough toys so every child could take one home. I didn’t tell the clinic until closer to the party day, I just wanted to make it happen. And with the support of family, friends, and coworkers, I collected a little over 75 toys. Each child left with a gift in hand and joy in their heart.
What started as a small act of love sparked something much bigger. Since that first toy drive, our efforts have grown every year. By December 2025, we celebrated year five of the toy drive, reaching a goal of 500 toys, a milestone that seemed impossible back in 2021. Families, friends, neighbors, and local businesses all came together to make it happen, proving that a simple idea fueled by community support can create a huge impact.
This journey taught me that small actions can lead to meaningful change. What began as a single mom wanting to bring joy to her child’s Christmas party has now grown into J Steppin’ 4 Autism, a nonprofit dedicated to spreading smiles, awareness, and acceptance.
Next year, we hope to grow even more - more toys, more children, more smiles, and more “steppers” at our annual fun walks. Every small step we take together helps build a world where children with autism and their families feel seen, celebrated, and included.
If you want to be part of this journey whether through donating toys, volunteering, or joining our awareness walk, your support makes a real difference. After all, it all started with a simple idea… and a wish to make children’s faces light up with joy.
